  • Sueetie Now Feasting on Latest Gallery Server Pro Bits

I’m happy to report that Sueetie has been updated to Gallery Server Pro 2.3.3750, Roger Martin’s latest release of the best .NET Media Gallery in the land. Gummy Bear 1.3 will include the upgrade, so I know that will make a lot of people happy. I haven’t upgraded Gallery Server Pro for almost a year. Roger has been busy paying the bills, so the release frequency of GSP updates wasn’t at Roger’s usual feverish pace. There have been several minor update releases since the Sueetie 2.3.3421 version and...
  • Information Management: Collaboration: Putting Social Technology to Work

In this Information Management article, Telligent founder and CTO Rob Howard discusses the value of social analytics - knowing who is in your community and what they are talking about, to help you to seek out influencers and react accordingly. Some of Howard's key points include: listening inside and outside your community, leveraging user generated content and understanding user types Read the full article here . Read More...

  • Integration with Sitecore CMS

Last week I attended Sitecore's Dreamcore 2010 event in Boston to demonstrate the powerful integration available between Sitecore CMS and Telligent Community . Single Sign-On : Create a seamless user experience for sign in, sign out and site registration. Role mapping : Synchronize roles between applications. Users in a security role in Sitecore are automatically mapped to appropriate roles within Telligent Community. User migration/import : Create Sitecore users from existing Telligent Community...
  • More on Custom Page Styling in ScrewTurn Wiki

In our last episode we walked through the process of creating Namespaces in ScrewTurn Wiki, selected a theme and as a bonus, demonstrated how to fine-tune page elements to duplicate the page styles across all ScrewTurn namespaces. Today we're going to replace the fine-tuning edit process of ScrewTurn /wiki/public/*.cs content files with the Content Editing feature already built-in to ScrewTurn Wiki. This post is yet another demonstration of why blogging is important to get things right. As has...
  • Everyman on Humanized Description, Multitasking Illusions, Freelancer a Bad Word

Humanized Description. I love stories like this one where individuals in often menial jobs become celebrities because they blow away everyday expectations. Here Jay Baer describes how US Airways flight attendant Randy Lausen relishes the description of air travel. Baer transcribes both Lausen’s coach and first-class greetings. Here’s the opening to his coach greeting. “Ladies and gentlemen, I bid you a kind welcome to Flight 187, from St. Louis to Phoenix, Arizona otherwise known as paradise. We...
  • Duplicating Custom Page Styling in ScrewTurn Wiki Namespaces

One of the great features in ScrewTurn Wiki is namespaces, distinct wiki areas supporting namespace-specific permissions and administration, theming, page layouts and more.  ScrewTurn Wiki namespaces are fully supported with Sueetie, but the Sueetie Activity Log wasn't correctly recording non-root wiki page permalinks. A small bug to be sure, but the fix gave me the chance to work with ScrewTurn Wiki Namespaces. Creating a ScrewTurn Namespace is a snap.  I was into my new namespace...
  • Sueetie Localizer Ready to Rock in Gummy Bear 1.3

Localization support was never a high priority for me in Sueetie, especially when you consider that each of the apps in Sueetie already supports it. But there are non-English Sueetie Communities out there and it was time, so Gummy Bear 1.3 will have full localization support and a new ASPNET Control called <SUEETIE:SueetieLocal />.  The class that supports code-behind localization is called the SueetieLocalizer, and who won’t like using “SueetieLocalizer.GetString()?” Win, win. Localization...

  • Social Currency with Telligent

A recent Fast Company article, Five Steps to Social Currency , provides tips on profiting in a world in which every brand is attempting to gather Facebook fans, Twitter followers and a YouTube audience. Your brand doesn't need buzz; it needs true value. Telligent can help. Advocates trump followers. Quantity is less important than quality. By providing an online community in which you can engage your audience in conversations with other like-minded people, you strengthen their bond with your...
  • Everyman on Putting Facebook Last, Next Killer Mobile App, Worker or Entrepreneur

Reciprocation. Putting Facebook Last. The title of this Molly Rants piece is absolutely correct, How Facebook is putting its users last. I opted-out of Personalization and allowing friends and applications to share anything and everything about me across the Internet.  I also won’t be clicking on “I like this” any time soon in Phase One of Facebook withdrawal. I think Facebook is awesome and what they’re doing with Personalization and Facebook Connect is brilliant, but with Facebook’s habitual...
  • Online Community Software for Nonprofits

Because trust is a key factor to nonprofit organizations, online community software can be extremely valuable. Facilitating collaboration among members through blogs and forums can raise awareness, encourage donations and garner support. Just like with any other type online community, there are steps you must take to ensure your success: Develop a clear strategy. First and foremost, that strategy should articulate a plan for what goals will be accomplished. Find a platform that fits your strategy...
  • Volunteering as a Comp Sci Teacher – How To

I’ve recently started a 14-week volunteering commitment at a local school and wanted to share lessons learned here.  I am working with a couple of developers to create and to teach ‘Introduction to Computer Programming (using SmallBasic )’ as an after-school program. It would be fantastic if more of us in the developer community would try this type of volunteering.  Here’s a ‘How To:’ 1) Identify the school .  You’ll be surprised at how receptive schools are to the idea of this type...

It’s probably no surprise that most of the Telligenti are iPhone, MacBook and now iPad junkies. But we Telligenti are open-minded for the most part and we’re committed to using and abusing “best of breed” solutions – we now use Solr (on Java) for our Read More......( read more ) Read More...

  • Meet the Lovely Lucene at Sueetie.com

This is a one of those really big announcements in the life of Sueetie. I just finished Sueetie’s new Lucene.NET-based search engine and it’s online for your review at Sueetie.com. I’m calling it “Sueetie Search” (surprise!) and it will be available in Gummy Bear 1.3. Sueetie Search retrieves content from all site applications: blogs, wikis, media galleries and forums.  You can filter by application type, by field, and search with Lucene’s rich query language of wildcards, proximity searching...

  • Teacher-for-a-Week

Earlier this month Llewellyn and I taught six 6th grade girls to program.  We were invited to be guest instructors at the Girls’ Middle School Intersession.  While there we taught 3 hours per day for 5 days.  This was a great opportunity for us to try out our recipe library with new programmers. Here’s what we did: 1) We taught 2-3 recipes plus more* (detail below) per day 2) We taught in both SmallBasic and in Java 3) We used Agile techniques, such as pair programming, 5-minute sprints...

  • Everyman on Bill Knew Better, Transmedia Storytelling, Freelancers for the Win

Bill Knew Better. I’m sure you found all of the press about Steve Jobs killing off non-Apple development platforms like Flash and MonoTouch on Apple OS4 devices as interesting as I have. Two of the most educational articles (along with their many good comments) were Econsultancy’s Steve Jobs will kill the goose that laid the golden egg and Gawker’s Dark Side of Steve Jobs. Too many good excerpts to share in a single link, and since Everyman is a Librarian and not a Professor I’ll keep my opinions...
