  • Forums Reorganization on communityserver.org

As another step towards improving our customer support, today we reorganized the forums here on communityserver.org. This reorganization consisted of three primary items: We removed old content. What we found is that there was a lot of content that pertained to versions that were released more than two years ago. We recognized that there is little more frustrating than finally finding a solution to a problem, only to attempt a solution that no longer applies. Furthermore, some of this content was...
  • CS Nuglet: CS2007.1 fix for "Unable to start debugging"

When you fire-up the CS2007.1 SDK and go to debug the first time you may encounter the Visual Studio error message, Unable to start debugging on the web server. The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may be because the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see the Help file of assistance. The fix this is going into the Web Project properties and in the web tab change CS2007.1's default Web Server from http...
  • Enhancements that made it 2007.1

In TelliCast #25 we visit with David Penton and talk about how Community Server was improved between CS2007 and CS2007.1. Why was that a "dot" release after SP2 versus just being an SP3? If you're running CS2007 but aren't on CS2007.1, you'll want to hear about the major improvements that were introduced with .1. View Video Format: wmv Duration: 12:02 Download Video Read More...

  • Community Server Byte for November 27, 2007

blog bits The Ajax Ninja, who blogged about ongoing problems with CS2007 on DiscountASP.NET, reports that DiscountASP.NET is discontinuing support for Community Server 2007 because it exceeds their 100MB app pool policy. More specifically, they've removed advertisements and "all content about CS" from their website. Sounds to me that with client-focused moves like this, if you want to run Community Server 2007 (on a Virtual Private Server, of course), that DiscountASP.NET should definitely...

  • More Community Server as a Business App Pics

I blogged before about one of my projects being a Jobs Management application built on top of Community Server. The most recent area we covered was Charge Labor. Using the Charge Labor service, project managers can enter hours billed for each days' work. We also covered the Job Description page, how we're using a custom Component-Art Jobs Grid to serve as the site's home page. We also covered the role of Community Server background tasks, exception reporting and event logging to import...
  • Community Server Byte for November 15, 2007

blog bits One of my long-time CS Forum buds, Nick Harrington, shows us an example of embedding forum post videos on his EMR/u forums. Mark Monica with detailed information gleaned from Kevin Harder and elsewhere on using Windows Live Writer with Integrated Authentication. forum bits A lot of talk this week about the state of Community Server Forums and how users from various communities are complaining about a lack of features compared to other forum applications. CS MVP David Voss with sound reasoning...
  • SLDC07 with good people

Tellligent has some great people. One of the things that makes us great is our involvement in the community (.Net Community, Developer Community, Social Community, et cettera). Telligent has 2 Microsoft Regional Directors , numerous Microsoft MVPs and ASPInsiders and countless Microsoft and PMI Certified developers and leaders. This past weekend, I found Telligenti Karthik Hariharan and Deryl Dorsett at the Dallas Silverlight Dev Camp hosted by Chris Koenig from Microsoft at Improving Enterprises...

  • Community Server Byte for November 4, 2007

blog bits If you want to get in the Community Server Game it's now going to cost you $2000 bucks for a Professional License. Rob Howard announces that the Personal and Small Business licenses are no longer available. I suspect we'll be seeing a variety of responses over the next week, as the announcement came only Friday afternoon, but thus far CS MVP Keyvan Nayyeri uses the license change to describe 2007 as a terrible year for the community but a great year for the product. TommyWeather...
  • DBVT.COM Now Proudly Serving CS2007.1, Take Two

If you saw a post titled "DBVT.COM Now Proudly Serving CS2007.1" in your RSS feeds and clicked through to my site only to encounter a login page, I'm sorry about that. That post doesn't exist anymore, thus the "Take Two" and an explanation. It's pretty late and I had a long night, so I'm not going to go into too many details. Let's just say that the reason the original post no longer exists is because my upgrade to CS2007.1 required a full database and site...
  • DBVT.COM now proudly serving CS2007.1

I'm not TOO far behind the eight-ball on my CS2007.1 upgrade, but I'm happy to now be running Community Server Build 3.1.20910.1126 on DBVT.COM. It seems pretty zippy to me, but other than that, until I start looking under the hood, I'm not seeing anything way cool to tell you about that's new in v.1 so far. There was no SQL Update script from CS2007 to CS2007.1, which surprised me. I assumed with the performance enhancements and several of the posts Telligent's David Penton made...
  • Customer support announcement

We've learned a lot from building and supporting Community Server for the past 3 years. One of the biggest challenges we've had is providing the level of customer service we think is necessary. We've in fact been called out by several people in the past several months as having support that doesn't meet expectations. That's really frustrating for us. We've been doing a lot of research on this and wanted to share our conclusions and decisions. There are essentially 3 components...
